As the first female Best Boy Grip in Canada… an accidental tag I fell into… I was lucky to stand next to cinematographers Don Burgess, Jeffrey Kimball, Fred Murphy, Olver Wood and Newton Sigel. Gripping tossed me adventures I never expected, comraderie that I’ll never forget and mentorship with some of the greats… hmm how many best boys spent every lunch screening projected dailies with John Woo?, or had dinner with Frank Marshall?
I was an anomoly… a girl in a guys job… as a grip on some of the most expensive films ever-made, I learned about lighting, rigging, camera movement… as a technician I learned the pace of a film set and the heart and mind of the people who sacrifice their home life to be there day in and out…
