Secret Nod

I have taken up running. And I am confused.

Someone tell me why other runners nod when you go by? Is this a runners secret bat signal? Does it mean we all meet later at the pub for poutine and Bud lime? ‘Cause that’s what I’m hoping. Or is it a weird twitch? I don’t want to suffer all this cardio just to develop a freaky twitch.beached-sneakers-01

It is certainly not a nod of approval as my running form right now consists my beet red face, huffing and puffing, cursing like a banshee in between belting out random Metallica lines. Not hot. Definitely am not scenting off any friendly “let’s have a chat” pheromones.

What is behind this pop athletic bobbing head trend? As I often do, I looked to movies to solve this mystery. I watched: Run Fat Boy, Run Baby Run, Logan’s Run, Chicken Run, Cannonball Run, The Running Man, Running With Wolves, Running With Scissors, Running With Mum, Running on Empty, Running Free, Running Mates, Running Brave, Running Wild, Running Time, Running Turtle (it’s Korean), Silent Running, Two Brothers Running, Cool Runnings, Last Man Running, Running Cool, Running Late, Running Out, Running Red, Running Brave, Running Stumbled, Dead Man Running, Off And Running, Running Delilah, Running Dragon, Running Fence, Running for Bogota, Running Scared, Running Woman, Running Against Dick, Running Still, Running Riot, Running Scared, Running in Tall Grasses, Running for River, Running Deep, Running Away, Running on Indian Time, Running From the Shadows, Keep on Running, Dead Spy Running. Running With Sickles, Running With The Devil, Running With the Boys, The Running Fight, The Running Gun and Run…

And I’ve come to a conclusion. Don’t name your blooming flick using the words Run or Running if it a sluggish boring piece of crap that has nadda to do with running, jogging or even speed walking. It’s as if the majority of these movies were titled to fool us into watching them. Like the name trickery of permasnow Greenland and hot spring Iceland. The only quick pace was me fast-forwarding.

Below is a film that stays true to its title promise:
Run Lola Run

Now that Franka Potente can run. Must be the hair dye. One day I’ll riff about the German and Frodo but for now… Can anyone explain why runners nod at me? Write below
